Combining Foods

The art of combining food is as easy as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. How would an animal eat this ? Carnivores eat meat alone, and herbivores eat there vegetables alone. It is easy to see why the cheeseburger is clearly the most difficult to digest. And it is! Fruits, when eaten alone digest through the stomach in less than an hour. Proteins take 4 hours and legumes and grains can take up to 6 hours. So when fruit/sugar is eaten with a protein, the fruit begins to ferment and digestive time is impaired.

2. Simplicity is key. Less than 5 ingredients in a meal is ideal. Simple salad of lettuce/kale/celery, cucumber/tomato and avocado/nuts; a bowl of strawberries and blueberries; oranges and other citrus together; nuts and seeds; starchy foods with non sweet fruits and vegetables.

3. Avoid items our body has trouble processing. After our bodies produce a full set of teeth, the enzyme rennin that acts upon milk proteins diminishes greatly. Try rice, coconut, hemp or almond milk for alternatives.

Avoid eating when stressed, not hungry or tired. Increase your water intake and eat what looks appealing to your senses. Most importantly, enjoy your food!
